Mt Pleasant
What a difference four walls can make! We are now settling into our third house in less than 8 months, and like our first abode in NZ, this place is fantastic. Mt Pleasant is round the other side of the Port Hills from Lyttelton and with views over the estuary to the sea and the mountains further in the distance, we are already very happy here. The move itself was a bit of a pain – envisage Ben and Ollie (a mate from work) lugging our leather sofa over the balcony on the first floor using the roof of the hired van to help – and it took nearly two full days ... but definitely worth it. On Sunday afternoon we watched from sailing and the kite surfers from the deck with beer in hand – this is more what we had in mind!
Louise and Daniel were happy that we moved on the 1st December and they could get their advent calendar out. Summer sun makes it weird for Ben and I to start thinking about Christmas but the kids have no such problems!!
The outdoor pool opened here last weekend too so we made it along to the opening party. Louise and Daniel are looking forward to swimming every afternoon in the last two weeks of term.
In all the excitement of the last few weeks, we forgot to mention that we had our first sighting of a real Kiwi at Willowbank, a wildlife centre in Christchurch and also did a reckie trip up the coast to Kaikoura, where we hope to visit again over the summer when we have family over. We decided to leave whale watching for another time (the sea looked very choppy) and instead went for a walk along the shore and the seal colony and then visited some caves.
Kaikoura and Willowbank photos (no Kiwis - they live in the dark).
I’ve added some photos of the kids to our last entry and will endeavour to get some piccies of the house and views over the next few days.

Many years ago whilst bored and unemployed we decided to "have christmas" (ie an extra one!) in the middle of summer. Food, drink, presents and decorations all helped conjour up the xmas atmosphere but what really made it real was tracking down a supply of cheesy xmas records. Listen to "Merry Xmas Everybody", "Mistletoe and Wine" and of course "Wombling Merry Christmas" ten times each and -- whatever the weather -- you will be in no doubt that 'tis the season.
Have Fun

I once spent a Christmas in Geelong Victoria in a heat wave. the two things I remember most were a journaist frying eggs on the pavement to prove that it was indeed a heat wave -- and the Father Christmassses from the local stores going around in their fur trimmed arctic red dressing gowns. Happy Christmas!

Oh and Happy Birthday Ben!
(It was your birthday there but not here as I wrote my previous comment... and is your birthday here but not there as I write this one).
(I think).

Weather looks fab over there now - it's alternating between cold and wet, cold and windy and mildish with a cold wind here.
Glad you managed to work it all out, sounds like Ben needs a medal for getting the sofa in at all!
Your house and views are spectacular, I couldn't believe what a lovely spot you had managed to land when I saw it on the webcam last weekend.
You are all looking very relaxed and well, the black hole has thanfully moved on now. You just have to try and get your sense of perspective back occasionally and try and weigh things up objectively (easier said than done sometimes)
School looks really cool! I can't believe how big Louise looks now!
Thanks for the mention in your blog.
Lots of love
Gill
